We all know about the harmful effects of poisoning our bodies with over consumption. We can eat too much. Drink too much. Sleep too much. Exercise too much. Watch television too much. Play games too much. Anything you can think of could easily be taken in excess.
But what about emotions?
It’s easily identifiable when you may have over indulged physically. An upset stomach, feeling slow, and exhaustion are very succinct indicators. However, when it comes to emotions, it’s harder to identify when we’ve been holding on to “excess”.
Emotions require an active and conscious effort to recognize when they might be require special attention. I believe we all have an “inner child”. Psychologists have started to coin this term as a jump off to the discussion of core emotions we may harbor from our childhood. Some of these emotions can show as a deep need we have been ignoring or even a part of ourselves that is damaged and has left us vulnerable. My relationship with alcohol has been atypical but still not unheard of. Very early in my teens I knew that we had a several alcoholics in our family from past to current generations. We had an alcoholic living in our home throughout my adolescent. Alcohol was mysterious and dangerous as it sat in our ill-guarded “liquor cabinet”. My family loves re-telling stories about rubbing whiskey on my gums when I was teething to soothe my “pain”. I can definitely remember on more than one occasion growing up being given a sip or two of beer by well meaning aunts and uncles. Throughout my life I’ve been entangled in the most wondrous, stressful, emotional, uplifting, life-changing, evolving relationships both romantically and pla. I have learned much more than I ever dreamed simply by allowing myself to engage fully with those in my life. All of the lessons didn’t come wrapped neatly though. Routines have never been my thing.
I’m not one of those people. I hate routine. I hate schedules. I’m beyond whimsical and flighty. As an Aries, I love things on my time, whenever I want. I’ve become entirely selfish with my time. I don’t feel like I owe anyone anything with times, dates, schedules, or routines.
